The following points are addressed:

1. the structure of the atom as a central nucleus (containing protons and neutrons) surrounded by electrons moving in shells/energy levels.

2. the relative masses, atomic number and mass number

3. charges of protons, neutrons and electrons, and recognise that most of the mass of an atom is in the nucleus.

4. using the atomic number to write the electron configurations

5. the isotopes as

6. using data, including that from a mass spectrometer, to identify the number and abundances of different isotopes of elements.
